The Trestle Table boasts a rich history that stretches back to ancient Rome. The sturdy, durable design of the Trestle Table allowed large numbers of people to eat together with ample space for food and drink. While these ancient tables were typically stone or marble, the 15th and 16th centuries saw the Trestle Table adopting wood construction and a re-enforced design. The Refectory Table, a cousin to the Trestle Table, became the classic table used in Monasteries for communal dining. Today, Trestle Tables are valued for their spacious design and sturdy construction.
