Friends and Furniture: Annual Woodcrafters Convention
Comments Off on Friends and Furniture: Annual Woodcrafters Convention
The 2011 Northern Indiana Woodcrafters Association made its annual stop from February 25 – March 2. And it left this furniture-enthusiast anticipating next year’s convention. I made the trek to Howe, Indiana, on February 28 and spent a day wandering the vast 145,000 sq. foot space of the Michiana Event Center.
Each aisle was packed to the gills with vendors and their hand-crafted goods. Also, I could hardly travel 10 feet without being struck with admiration for the craftsmanship and artistry of some beautiful furnishings. There were countless opportunities for conversation as well. Seeing old friends, colleagues and customers chatting was a common sight.
I conversed with several friendly retailers. To my delight, they brought me up to date with latest advancements in the world of Amish furniture. In some cases, I heard the fascinating personal stories of how retailers entered to the world of furniture craftsmanship. I was moved by the friendliness and professionalism of each person I encountered. Also, the artistry of their craft intrigued me greatly.
A delicious catered dinner and the anticipation of next year’s convention topped off my full day of friends and furniture at the 2011 Northern Indiana Woodcrafters Association.
